 Overview Elastic
is manufactured by combining strands of natural or synthetic rubber with
strands of yarn. In the case of elastic shock cords, a number of rubber strands
are encased in a braided cover of one or more layers of yarn.
The
methods used to produce flat elastic are weaving, braiding, or knitting, though
the properties of each method may overlap. For example, most material
constructed by the braiding procedure is lighter than that produced by weaving,
however, either very heavy braids or very light wovens can be produced by
HNW.

Woven elastic fabrics are
dense with interlocking threads for a strong, premium product. These items will
not narrow when stretched.
Weave variations include a cotton gabardine,
a lightweight polyester & cotton insert type elastic, nylon webbing or
special constructions.
Widths are 1/4" to 8". |
|
Braiding produces a lower cost
elastic which is generally more dense than knitted elastic. The material will
narrow when stretched. Available from 1/8" up to 2" in flat braids.
Most
Shock and Stretch cords are braided with a single or double
covering.
Cords diameters are from 1/16" to 1". |
|
Knitted elastic is generally
lightweight and not as densely or tightly made as woven elastics. It is
generally the least expensive construction. It will not narrow when
stretched.
Our knit is made with polyester or polypropylene
yarn.
Widths are from 1/4" to 12" or special configurations to
20". |
